Osteopathy: Guest Speaker

[Over the next three weeks we will be having guest speakers. These people are specialists in different fields of medicine, including chiropractors and accupuncturists. I will be logging these presentations.]

Yesterday we had our first guest speaker. Osteopath Dr. David Sollberger visited us at the beginning of the day.

He talked about what osteopathy is, and the four basic principles of osteopathy, which are:

1. The body is a single unit;
2. Structure and function are reciprocally interrelated;
3. The body has the capacity to heal itself; and
4. Rational treatment is based on the first three principles.

The osteopathic definition of health is based on three main points:
1. Health is a natural state of harmony;
2. The human body is a perfect machine created for health and activity;
3. A healthy state exists as long as there is normal flow of body fluids and nerve activity.

Dr. Sollberger showed us how he would crack a joint back into place. He called for volunteers, but no one wanted to try. So, Mr. Arcaro came up and showed us.
It was a good presentation, with some interesting content, although it was irreelevant to our topic.

In those wise words of Jason...
